Lobachevsky and His Time" Premieres on the Main Stage of the Moscow International Book Fair in Gostiny Dvor

The book Lobachevsky and His Time was presented on the main stage of the Moscow International Book Fair at Gostiny Dvor. It is dedicated to the life and achievements of the great Russian mathematician. The book is based on the interdisciplinary online quiz Russia Decides!, part of Science Around. Discoveries Continue project, implemented by ASU in collaboration with the Science Mail portal and supported by the Russian Ministry of Education and Science.

The book was authored by Leila Kurashinova, editor-in-chief of the Adyghe University Publishing House. Nikolai Andreev, head of the Laboratory for Popularization and Outreach of Mathematics at the Steklov Institute of Mathematics of the Russian Academy of Sciences, and Kirill Sukhov, head coach of the Russian team at the International Mathematical Olympiad for Schoolchildren, served as consultants.

The book features illustrations by Irina Gaponova, a graduate of Adyghe State University, and includes questions and mathematical problems. Lobachevsky's biography is presented within the context of his era. According to the authors, the book's goal is not only to inform readers about the scientist's life and work but also to engage them in independent reflection.

The presentation at the Moscow International Book Fair took the form of a discussion. Participants included Daud Mamiy, Rector of Adyghe State University; Nikolay Andreev, Head of the Laboratory for Popularization and Outreach of Mathematics at the Steklov Institute of Mathematics of the Russian Academy of Sciences; and Leyla Kurashinova, Editor-in-Chief of Adyghe University Publishing House. The discussion was moderated by Fatima Tlyusten, Director of Adyghe University Publishing House. The conversation focused not only on the book but also on the character of the scientist, the university's work in the 19th century, the origins of scientific revolutions, the importance of knowing the history of science for schoolchildren, and the efforts Adyghe State University should undertake to popularize mathematics today.
