The Minister of Education and Science Valery Falkov presided over the inaugural meeting of the Council for the Award of the Andrei Nikolaevich Kolmogorov Russian Government Prize in Mathematics. Participants included Gennady Krasnikov, President of the Russian Academy of Sciences; Viktor Sadovnichy, Rector of Lomonosov Moscow State University; Daud Mamiy, Rector of Adyghe State University; and other distinguished figures. Together, they discussed the submissions for the 2026 prize.

The Minister of Education and Science emphasized that the significance of mathematics in the modern world is difficult to overstate, as it is a fundamental science with extensive practical applications across numerous fields.

“Currently, our mathematicians continue to achieve outstanding results in their work. As a result, Russia remains a vital global hub for mathematical research,” emphasized Falkov.

The prizes, each valued at 8 million rubles, are awarded every three years in recognition of exceptional accomplishments in fundamental mathematics, applied mathematics, mathematical challenges in computer science, and mathematical problems in mechanics and physics.

The awards ceremony will coincide with Mathematician's Day, celebrated annually in Russia on December 1.

Andrei Nikolaevich Kolmogorov was one of the most eminent mathematicians of the 20th century. His significant contributions spanned topology, geometry, functional analysis, measure theory, differential equations, and various other fields. Alongside other scientists, he played a pivotal role in the development of modern probability theory.
